According to multiple sources, and now officially announced by the team itself, the Buffalo Bills have come to terms on a contract with former Titans and Eagles quarterback Vince Young.
Young worked out for the Bills last week in Orchard Park, but originally left without a contract. The deal is for one year worth $2-million with $1-million in playtime bonuses.
Young left Buffalo last week to potentially seek work with a different team, but it didn’t work out and he soon found himself back in Buffalo.
The high-profile quarterback will compete with Tyler Thigpen for the backup position behind incumbent starter Ryan Fitzpatrick. Bills General Manager Buddy Nix said prior to Young coming in that he would not be brought in to compete for the starting spot.
In the official press release from the organization, Nix said, “We think adding Vince to our roster will create more competition for the backup quarterback position. He brings with him some unique physical abilities that most are aware of and that will make the competition interesting. It’s all about improving our team.”
That being said, Young does have a career record of 31-19 as a starter in his six year career despite going 1-2 last season with the Eagles.
Young released the following statement through his agent Denise White:
“Thanks to Buddy Nix and Coach Gailey for giving me the opportunity to come in and play and compete. I am looking forward to playing with guys and helping where I am needed.”
Young also said the following through his official twitter account:
“I have always respected the Bills organization and am looking forward to being a part of the team”
New Bills defensive end Mario Williams tweeted in regards to the signing, “Congrats to @VinceYoung glad to have you!”
Some other reactions to the signing:
