Buffalo, NY – Over the past few days there has been a lot of speculation that the Buffalo Sabres were one of the few teams scheduled to meet with veteran free agent Shane Doan.
This morning, Sabres general manager Darcy Regier put those rumors to rest, for now. “No, we have not met with him (Doan),” said Regier. “I don’t know whether we will meet with him. We’re monitoring the situation, and I’d leave it at that.”
Doan has reportedly met with the Flyers, Penguins, Rangers, and is currently meeting with the Canucks. When asked about a scheduled visit Reiger just said, “No, not yet.”
As far as the team’s interest in bringing in Doan, Regier said his loyalty is a big reason for there pursuit of the Coyote captain. “I admire the level of loyalty he has provided to his club,” he said. “I think that’s meaningful, and I admire that, but in the event that he’s not going to stay there we certainly would have an interest.”
