Playing without manager Marty Brown after being suspended earlier in the day, Buffalo struggled to get their bats going as they were shutout by Lehigh Valley in their return home Tuesday evening 4-0.
Starring for the Iron Pigs, veteran Cody Overbeck gave the Bisons all sorts of problems.
Overbeck put the Iron Pigs on the board first with a leadoff home run in the second inning to put Lehigh Valley up 1-0.
Two innings later, the Phillies prospect was at it again, hitting another bomb, this time a two run shot to put the Iron Pigs up 3-0.
Overbeck finished the evening 3-4 with two home runs and three RBI’s.
While Bisons starter Thad Weber was struggling, Iron Pigs starter Tom Cochran had no problem containing the Herd’s lineup.
The southpaw held Buffalo scoreless in five innings of action, striking out four.
The closest the Bisons came to scoring was in the bottom of the first. Buffalo loaded the bases with 1-out only to see Mauro Gomez and Andy LaRoche fly-out to end the inning.
Bisons starter Thad Weber falls to 0-1 after allowing three runs and five hits in four innings of action.
The lone bright spot in the Herd’s lineup was Eugenio Velez who continued his hot hitting as of late, going 3-5 with a double to increase his average to .304
With the loss, Buffalo falls to 31-26 on the year.
