10:40: 8-0 OSU – B. Miller 47 yard pass complete to Devin Smith, TD. 2-pt conversion GOOD.
7:05: 16-0 OSU – B. Miller 7 yard pass complete to Chris Fields, TD. 2-pt conversion GOOD.
0:38: 23-0 OSU – J. Hall 49 yard run, TD. XP GOOD
Outmatched, too physical, unprepared… whatever word you want to use probably fits for the first quarter of play at Ohio Stadium. Ohio State completely dominated Buffalo and scored 23 points to grab a 23-0 lead. Braxton Miller threw two touchdowns and Jordan Hall had a hole bigger than the highway on his 49 yard touchdown. The Bulls couldn’t move the ball and it showed with just 63 yards of offense compared to the Buckeyes’ 216.
9:18: 23-7 OSU – J. Licata 16 yard pass complete to Matt Weiser, TD. XP GOOD
7:10 – 23-13 OSU – K. Mack 45 yard interception return for TD. 2-pt conversion NO GOOD
6:52 – 30-13 OSU – J. Hall 37 yard run, TD. XP GOOD
A completely different quarter from the Bulls offense and defense. UB was actually able to win the second quarter 13-7. Bulls linebacker Khalil Mack was a man among boys in the second quarter racking up four tackles, including two sacks and two for loss. But his half of dominance was highlighted by a 45 yard interception return to get the Bulls within ten, 23-13. Braxton Miller threw the ball right into the chest of Mack who was in the right position at the line of scrimmage and he quickly turned on the jets and dove over the pillion for the touchdown. OSU quickly responded with a long kickoff return and 37 yard TD run by Jordan Hall, his second of the game.
10:21: 30-20 OSU – J. Licata 10 yard pass complete to A. Neutz, TD. XP GOOD
3:16: 37-20 OSU – K. Guiton 21 yard pass complete to Chris Fields, TD. XP GOOD
Well besides the major news of Khalil Mack becoming the number one trend nationally on Twitter, the Bulls continued to fight and battle to stay in the game. Licata hit Neutz for ten yard score to make the score 30-20 in the opening minutes of the quarter. Mack then sacked Braxton Miller and caused a fumble which looked to be recovered by the Bulls at the OSU one yard line. The play was overturned by an illegal hands to the face penalty on the sack which negated Mack’s third sack and gave the ball back to OSU at their own 33. They then went on to score on a Kenny Guiton to Chris Fields 21 yard strike. Braxton Miller was on the sideline nursing cramps.
7:10: 40-20 OSU – 37 yard field goal by Drew Basil GOOD.
Let’s face the facts; UB wasn’t supposed to beat Ohio State. But let’s also be honest for a second; When Khalil Mack forced what looked to be a fumble on Ohio State’s one yard line, your heart for a split second thought it may have been possible. Ohio State is good, really good. They have one of the best quarterbacks in the country and a great defense. The Bulls showed a type of fight they have not showed for a long time. The Buckeyes added a field goal in the fourth quarter and ultimately took down Buffalo 40-20 on the first Saturday of the college football season.
